ADUs galore

I’ll admit it. I’m obsessed!
A co-worker of mine had an ADU built. Oh, is it ever a beauty. It’s 800 sq ft which, at this time, is the maximum size allowed. She drew the plans herself and did a wonderful job.

It’s two stories with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and high-end finishes. I love that it’s open, spacious and modern with polished concrete floors on the main level and tons of windows.

Plus, it’s in the Alberta Arts neighborhood so there is incredible walkability and high demand for rentals. The way it’s oriented on the lot provides outdoor privacy for both the main house and the ADU. Their total investment was about $170,000: money well spent!!!

ADUs – Accessory Dwelling Units – Is it an option for you??

ADUs are becoming more and more popular. There are so many possibilities: a rental unit, mother-in-law apartment, studio/office and on and on. I am personally a big fan; it might be because I always wanted a playhouse as a child! The city of Portland has an informative website which gives you an outline of the process and rules. I recently took a class from an architect that has done a number of them in Portland. They also have great information plus photos and layouts of ADU projects they have done around town.

So, if you decide to do or have done an ADU please, please let me know… I would love to stop by and see it!!
